Regional-Scale Seismic Liquefaction Susceptibility Mapping via an Empirical Approach Validated by Site-Specific Analyses

Regional-scale analyses of susceptibility to liquefaction are seldom performed in data-scarce areas. However, spite data limitations, such efforts can still provide useful information case populated, seismically active regions. The present work focuses on zonation for soil that might occur due ground shaking the Foggia Province, a data-scarce, area about 7000 km2 located southern Italy. Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) approach is used obtain map whole area, while geological and geotechnical database including 531 boreholes from 84 localities cross-validation. processed by means simplified quantitative method determine potential assess whether specific prone or not. Our results, along with an AUC ? ROC = 0.89 test value, indicate there widespread areas medium high very susceptibility, most susceptible zones localized Adriatic Sea coastline watercourses. final represents step forward towards assessment secondary seismic hazard study thus supporting regional local administrations responsible land-use planning risk mitigation.
